Trump’s Visit With Netanyahu Includes Possible U.S. Takeover of Gaza

President Trump’s first visit from a head of state took place with Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu at the White House on Tuesday. President Trump said, “In our meetings today, the Prime Minister and I focused on the future. We discussed how we can work together to ensure Hamas is eliminated and ultimately restore peace to a very troubled region.” Prime Minister Netanyahu publicly expressed his optimism concerning their collective goals by saying, “I believe, Mr. President, that your willingness to puncture conventional thinking, thinking that has failed time and time and time again, your willingness to think outside the box with fresh ideas will help us achieve all these goals.”

Perhaps the biggest news from the meetings includes Trump’s official proposal for the United States to take control of war-torn Gaza. United States takeover of the area would be for the purposes of securing calm and stability to the region. Trump stated that this would include the relocation of the Palestinian population to countries such as Egypt and Jordan. Trump declared that the U.S. would work to make Gaza a haven for jobs and tourism in contrast to the devastated area it is today.

The meeting also reaffirmed Trump’s determined stance against Iran obtaining nuclear weapons through the Maximum Pressure Campaign that existed during his first presidential term. The flagship effort of the campaign is to drive Iranian oil exports to zero as a way of preventing them from financing weapons creation and dissemination. Trump accused former President Biden of weakening U.S. resolve toward Iran.
