Moral Equivalency Between IDF and Hamas?

Nick Freitas, a member of the Virginia House of Delegates since 2016, was recently asked about the idea of moral equivalency between IDF and Hamas. Moral equivalency is a political phrase used when drawing comparisons between different things. The purpose of it is to make a point that one thing or group is either just as bad or just as good as the other.

The specific question posed to Freitas was, “Does the mounting civilian casualty rate in Gaza create a moral equivalency between the IDF and Hamas?” Civilian casualty is, sadly, part of any combat  experience, but Freitas’ response highlights exactly why there is not moral equivalency between the IDF and Hamas. He outlines that you must distinguish between fighting forces that deliberately target civilians versus forces that take measures to prevent civilian casualties.
