News of an impending expansion of the war in Israel is still the top story in the Middle East. The Israeli security council met overnight to vote on updated goals for the ongoing war with Hamas in Gaza. Until now the goals have been eliminating the Hamas military and governing ability, returning all hostages from the October 7 attacks, and ensuring Gaza is no longer a threat to Israel. Additional goals voted on include the safe return of residents from the north who have been displaced because of Hezbollah’s consistent attacks and the Israeli action needed for that to happen.
